To whom would you recommend this book? Kids who have read the other books will definitely welcome this Halloween addition it will definitely be a good fit to include in seasonal collections for kids in grades PreK-2.

This cute story might help bridge that gap, at least for younger audiences.Īnything you did not like about the book? It might help to have read at least the first book in the series, as it is unclear whether Sparkle is actually a unicorn, or a goat with a unicorn horn. Some love being scared, and some truly do not, but might be embarrassed to admit it to their friends. A muted autumnal palette adds to the reassuring tone of the book. With a lot of movement on every page, and a smattering of onomatopoeia incorporated into the illustrations, readers will have an easy time following the action and the expressive faces of the characters add to the fun as well as promote empathy for Sparkle. This fourth book in a series about a girl and her unusual pet is adorable. Once again Lucy is delighted by the fright, but realizes that her friend does not at all like being afraid. A noise startles him, and his hiding place begins to roll downhill until it lands beside Lucy and bursts open. When Lucy scares him with her jack-o’lantern, he flees the barn in fright and burrows inside a big pumpkin to hide. While Sparkle likes the corn maze, and the yummy cider and snacks, he doesn’t really enjoy the spooky old tree or the creepy scarecrow as much as Lucy does. What did you like about the book? Lucy and Sparkle, her goat-like pet unicorn, visit a pumpkin farm for some fall fun.
